Questions
The things people ask before they trust us with their business.
Straight answers. If yours is not here, email us and you will get one from the person who would build your site.
Trusting a small company
Who actually builds my site?
The same person you email. Kalchevo is a small studio, not an agency with account managers and outsourced developers. The person who reads your enquiry writes the scope, builds the site and answers your support jobs.
What happens if Kalchevo disappears?
Your content is always yours and you can export the lot from your account at any time, without asking. Your domain is yours and can be transferred away at any time. The server is backed up nightly and the backups are kept for 30 days. We have been running our own businesses on this platform for years, so it is not going anywhere, but you should never have to take that on trust, which is why the export button exists.
Where is my data kept?
On our own dedicated server in a German data centre, behind Cloudflare, with nightly backups. It is covered by UK GDPR exactly as it would be on a server in Britain. The full detail is in our privacy notice.
Is my site secure?
Every site is built by us without third party plugins, which is where most small business sites get broken into. The server is patched, monitored every minute, and nobody outside Kalchevo has a login to it. Your admin panel only edits your own content.
Do you outsource any of it?
No. Design, build, hosting and support are all done here. The only outside companies involved are the data centre, Cloudflare, PayPal for payments and the AI providers for the writing tools, all listed in the privacy notice.
Can I see sites you have built?
Yes, they are all live. Have a look at our work and click through to any of them.
Money
How does payment work?
You get a written quote with the scope line by line. You sign it online, pay a deposit of at least half by PayPal or card, and we start. The balance is due when the site goes live. Hosting is paid yearly in advance, or monthly on Essential and above.
Am I tied in?
No. The build is a one off payment and the hosting plan runs for the period you have paid for. Cancel whenever you like and it runs to the end of that period. There is no notice period and no exit fee, other than the small admin fee if you want a domain transferred away.
Are there any hidden costs?
No. Every price we charge is on the prices page. If it is not there, we do not charge it. Anything extra during a build is priced first and only goes ahead once you have approved it.
Do prices include VAT?
We are not VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay.
What are AI credits and will I run out?
The writing and image tools in your admin use credits. Essential, Business and Managed include a monthly allowance, and you can top up from your account. If you run out, nothing on your site stops working, you just cannot use the AI buttons until it renews or you top up. The Starter package does not include AI tools.
The site and the domain
Do I own the site?
You own everything you put into it: your words, photos, logo and products, and you can export them at any time. The code and templates that run it are ours, the same way a shop fitter owns their drawings, and the site runs for as long as we host it. The terms say this plainly.
Who holds my domain?
We do, in our registrar account, so the renewal is never missed. A .co.uk or .uk is free for as long as you host with us. It is your domain: ask and we release it to you or another provider within a working day, for the transfer out fee on the prices page.
Can I update the site myself?
From Business Site up, yes. You get an admin panel to edit pages, add blog posts, upload photos, change prices and manage bookings. Starter and One Page sites are edited by us, which is what the hourly rate on the prices page is for.
Can you take over the site I already have?
Usually, and moving it across is free from One Page up. If it is on WordPress we rebuild it properly rather than inherit somebody else's plugins, and we keep your pages and links so Google does not lose you. If you just want to know how your current site is doing, we also do a written survey or security check of a site hosted anywhere.
What if I want something adding halfway through?
Fine. We price it as a variation, you approve and pay it online, and only then does it go in. Your signed scope is the list of what is included, and nothing gets added to your bill without you agreeing first. One round of reasonable revisions is included in every build.
Google and being found
Will my site be on page one of Google?
Nobody can promise that, and anyone who does is not being straight with you. Google does not sell positions. What we do is build the site the way Google wants it, register it in Search Console, set up your Business Profile and submit the sitemap. Where it ends up depends on competition, time, reviews and fresh content. We will tell you what is realistic for your trade and your area before you spend a penny.
What is Google Business Profile and do I need it?
It is the listing that shows on Google Maps and in the box on the right when someone searches your business name. For a local business it often matters more than the website itself. We set it up and link it to your site from One Page up, and it is a £75 extra on the Starter.
Can you write the blog posts?
Yes. Managed includes two a month, or there is a four post pack on the prices page. Or use the AI writing tools in your admin and do it yourself in ten minutes.
Support
How do I get help?
Log a support job from your account, with a photo if it helps. It goes straight to the person who built your site and you can see where it is up to. Anything we built that is broken is fixed free, always.
Can I ring you?
Yes, by arrangement. Most things are quicker in writing and there is a record of what was agreed. Ask for a call and we book one. Managed customers get one the same week.
What are your hours?
Monday to Friday. Out of hours we still get the alert if a site goes down, and if it is serious we deal with it.
Still deciding?
Fill in the form, get a written scope and a fixed price, and decide with the numbers in front of you. Nothing is charged until you sign.
